Viewing Attachments in Email:

You may be offered several choices to view an attachment from an email:

You may choose to simply “View” the attachment. This will give you a “sneak peek” at the attachment but it may not be your best choice to see it clearly. If you choose to simply view, you will then have these options:

You may have the option to “View as HTML” but you may receive the following warning:

You may have the option to “Download as a Google _____”, and it will then convert the file. The original attachment will still be in the email but you may wish to convert an attachment in order to share and collaborate:

Your best choice may be to “Download” the attachment in the software in which it was originally created:

This is why it is very important that when saving any file that you verify that the extension (.xls., .doc, .ppt) is included in the file name.
